Securities Industry Essentials Exam
You may have recently heard about FINRA’s proposed Securities Industry Essentials Examination (SIE). The SIE Exam will allow candidates to sit for a core qualification exam without sponsorship from a FINRA member firm, as is required today. After passing the SIE, a candidate must be sponsored by a FINRA member firm to sit for a specialty top-off examination (Series 6 or Series 7). Once the top-off exam is passed, the candidate is eligible to register as a new representative with the member firm.
When will the SIE Exam be available?
The SIE Exam will not be introduced prior to 2018. You are still required to be sponsored by a broker/dealer to sit for the Series 6 or Series 7. FIRE is monitoring updates closely and will have a prep course available well ahead of the SIE implementation.
